Why is InTent in Davos during the World Economic Forum?

An introduction to the SDG Tent, by André Hoffmann, co-founder of Intent.

We have a collective imperative:  if we don't change the way we live together, we can’t reach sustainability. Our collective objective has to be the creation of a sustainable, inclusive prosperity. For four years now, InTent has brought forward the Sustainable Development Goals by creating bridges and conversations between different actors of our shared socio-economic system.

The World Economic Forum in Davos has a reputation of being the leading platform of collaboration between academia, businesses and politics. So, for those who aim to make an impact on the world sustainability agenda, it is not a bad place to be. The future is not about one group dominating. The future is about collaboration. And that's precisely the theme of this year’s World Economic Forum: “Collaboration for a Fragmented World”. But I am particularly pleased that InTent is able to organise a parallel program to the World Economic Forum’s, in our own premises, in the SDG Tent

InTent’ programme during the SDG Tent is focusing on four clusters of interest: the current state of nature, sustainable business models that can help regenerate it, the present and future of business education and leadership and the health of people and our planet. This week, in the SDG Tent, we are bringing people together who typically do not have opportunities to exchange on the issues they share, so that they can sketch solutions in an inclusive manner. We are greatly encouraged by the result of the recent COP15, as for the first time, we have a cohesive and inclusive biodiversity framework as a guideline to move forward. Obviously the 2000 people participating in this week’s programme are not going to create THE agenda for the future of the planet. But we can influence it. We can take the leadership into ways of moving urgent initiatives forward.

I have been a member of the World Economic Forum for more than 20 years. Yet, never have I seen so much importance put into nature and into humanity's relationship to nature. A real disruption is on its way, one that goes beyond civil society to include businesses and governments. The story ahead is one of collaboration.
