Intergenerational Perspectives: Our Duties to the Future
The discussions will focus on fostering intergenerational leadership, bringing together a powerful platform of seasoned and emerging leaders in addressing the planet’s urgent challenges. The leaders will examine renewing commitments to planetary stewardship, climate equity, solidarity, and social cohesion. Leaders today and tomorrow will have to leverage foresight, science, capital, and courage to make decisions that bridge generational divides, prioritize social equity, and uphold environmental responsibility. Bridge Builders today need to adopt new leadership skills like empathy, resilience, and adaptive thinking in younger leaders, while recognizing the wisdom and resilience of experienced leaders. We need to emphasize skill-building to navigate complex social challenges and enhance societal cohesion that fosters a renewed commitment to creating a fairer, healthier world in harmony with nature, planet, and people.

Panel Nature Finance - How to Make Nature Count in Portfolios
All of the world’s economic output is dependent on nature. And the rapid global losses in nature and biodiversity present significant risks to companies, especially as new regulatory frameworks become more stringent. Corporations must now pay close attention to the stock of natural capital that they depend on. But unlike climate-risk adjusted portfolios, nature finance remains poorly understood within the investment community. This is due to the perceived complexity of how to value the contribution of nature to business and getting the benefits recognized on balance sheets. This session will address these challenges, especially the emergence of natural capital as a critical asset class, the data and metrics needed to capture the risks and opportunities and the governance processes being rolled out to deliver transparency, and build investor confidence. It will also focus on how investors can construct portfolios that reflect nature’s true value. This will help to bridge the critical $800 billion annual funding gap identified by the Global Biodiversity Framework at COP 15 in 2021. This session will also highlight investment opportunities in Nature Tech and Nature- Based Solutions (NbS), and will feature insights from private markets, including sustainability bonds and blended finance. Overcoming challenges related to replicability and scalability will be essential to attract the necessary investments. This will ensure that natural capital becomes a cornerstone of sustainable finance and contributes to a resilient global economy far faster than the current pace.

The New Nature of Business: The Path to Prosperity and Sustainability
In this session, André Hoffmann will be joined by Barend van Bergen, Chief Sustainability Officer, Roche Holding AG, Switzerland. They will lay out a vision where business adopts a "nature agenda" and pursues sustainable, inclusive prosperity. They will explore how companies should change their ways to have continued success, and why the current modus operandi is not working. Based on his recent book, André Hoffmann presents a template for creating “sustainable prosperity”, and case-studies of companies that survived and thrived by opting for change – from Roche to IKEA. In doing so, he suggests a way out of long-standing dilemmas, such as how to balance business needs with impact on nature, shareholders with stakeholders, and short-term vs. long-term profits.

This high-level session will explore how natural processes and ecosystems can be leveraged to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality and the 2030 Agenda, highlighting the ecological, social and economic benefits of Nature based-solutions through case studies and practical strategies for addressing land degradation, biodiversity and climate challenges.
In order to raise awareness about the role of Nature-based solutions in building resilience against drought and other climate-induced impacts, we will showcase examples of different initiatives from around the world deployed to reduce drought hazards with a focus on rangelands in drylands.
